Interview w/Filip from CHEAP RESISTANCE Vol. 16 zine (Japan) from June 2010
1) Introduce member of SYIH.
Jozka - vocals, Filip - guitar, Tom - bass and vocals, Beno - drums. We are all more or less around 35 years old. Jozka is train conductor, I work as social lawyer, Tom works in laboratory and Beno works in pharmacy. Everybody has kids and family. We don’t play in any other bands. We are all active in organizing shows in Brno since 2003 under the “United Crusties” name. I have zine and label called “Hluboka Orba” since 1993.

2) The origin of the name of your band.
My previous band was called “Dead Future” {MRTVA BUDOUCNOST} and I wanted to name my new band back in 1999 in similar way - just brutal, desperate, pessimistic name.

3) What kind of lyrics does SYIH sing?
Our older lyrics {1999 - 2004 period} were probably little more depressive and political in the same time. They described issues like alienation of man in modern society, breakdown of communication among people, states oppression and faceless technology and machinery taking the power over people. More current lyrics are more about feelings, inner-power/strength and trying to encourage to fight back, to use your energy and knowledge to go on and to never give up.
We sing in Czech language, but always do provide translations to English and most of the time to Japanese as well.

4) A band's policy.
We are DIY hardcore/punk band. We believe that punk is for punks, not for businessmen! Hardcore/punk = network of friends! We are active in hardcore/punk scene for 20 years already and we will not give up.

5) I think SYIH is being greatly influenced by Japanese bands. In what chance did you come to be interested in Japanese bands?
Yes, since our first LP our sound became more influenced by classic Japanese hardcore sound. It’s little difficult to tell exactly when we became interested in Japanese hardcore/punk. I guess it was step by step. Back in late 80’s/early 90’s when we became active in hardcore/punk scene it was very difficult to get Japanese bands records here in Czech. But I started to correspond with Kawakami {rest in peace!} from DISCLOSE and Ryuji from BATTLE OF DISARM in 1993 and I got lots of Japanese stuff from them. Also MRTVA BUDOUCNOST started to cover songs by CROW and GAI very early, like 15 years ago...
Today everybody in SEE YOU IN HELL shares this big love for Japanese bands... Especially after touring Japan for the first time and seeing many great bands live. And of course we also organized gigs/tours for Japanese bands here - for FRAMTID, NK6/DUDMAN, D.S.B., VIVISICK and SYSTEMATIC DEATH. Japanese bands almost always play with high energy, high passion and great creativity. Also they usually stay active for long years and most of the time their releases are really well done. Japanese hardcore/punk just never fails to amaze and inspire us!

6) What kind of Japanese band do you like?
I really don’t want to forget anybody, but I guess that in SEE YOU IN HELL we would agree on most of classic 80’s Japanese bands like DEATHSIDE, CROW, G.I.S.M., SYSTEMATIC DEATH, S.O.B., OUTO, LIPCREAM, GAUZE, EXECUTE, ZOUO, KURO, GASTUNK, CONFUSE, NIGHTMARE, BASTARD... Of course we also love the more recent Japanese hardcore bands like FORWARD, CRUDE, A.I., ASSFORT, WARHEAD, D.S.B., PAINTBOX, MUSTANG, JUDGEMENT, CROSSFACE or PADLOCK... But we listen to many raw punk/crust bands old + new too like FRAMTID, COLLAPSE SOCIETY, DISCLOSE, CONTRAST ATTITUDE, BATTLE OF DISARM, CROCODILE SKINK, REALITY CRISIS, ARGUE DAMNATION, KRIEGSHOG, C.F.D.L., G.J.P.B., FRIGÖRA, VOCO PROTESTA, LIFE... Also to many “Amebix-influenced” bands like ACROSTIX, ZOE, AGE, S.D.S., AXEWIELD, HAKUCHI... Also fast HC bands like VIVISICK, NICE VIEW, BRUTAL TERRORISM, DUDMAN, CRUCIAL SECTION, CONGA FURY, LIE, SHORT FUSE, TONE DEAF, CIRCLE FLEX...  And I personally love many Japanese hardcore bands from the 90’s, which are maybe not so well-known outside Japan, but their records are killer: DON DON, BANDIT, LIBERATE, UNWISE, BLOOD FEAST, DASTON, INSANE YOUTH A.D., BLAZE, RUSTLER, JUNTESS... And of course I also know and like bands from Yokosuka! CRAZE CROW, PILE DRIVER, BATTLE ATTACKER, F.V.K. and PROTESTATION!
It’s really difficult for me to name all our favorite bands from Japan as there are obviously too many of them!

7) Do you have the memories of last Japan tour?
We toured Japan back in 2006 and we played in Tokyo {four times}, Sendai, Mie, Osaka, Kochi, Kurashiki and Nagoya. Shingo Maeda from Too Circle Records/ENCROACHED organized this tour for us {he also released two SEE YOU IN HELL CDs on his label}. We are very grateful to him as he did a great job and till today we can not thank him enough! We had really great time in Japan and we will never forget it! I remember great shows with some of the best Japanese bands, crazy uchiages in Mie, Osaka and Kochi, visiting Kawakami’s house {scary!}, meeting lots of new + old friends, drinking with VIVISICK members in Tokyo, buying lots of great records...
I also visited Japan 2 more times as a tourist - back in 2004 and in 2008. I had always great time in your country!
